Cupcake Wars are a Touchdown for Creative Foods Class

Dan Patch Stadium has never looked so sweet!

On March 30th, a Creative Foods class completed their “Cupcake Wars” Challenge which is modeled after the hit Food Network TV show.  Each group created a cupcake display to be judged by “celebrity” (teacher) judges.

These students completed their cupcakes and displays in just three days and were judged based on the thoughtfulness of their theme, their homemade decorations, their creativity, and their teamwork.  Ms. Pedretti, the Creative Foods teacher, said, “The end goal in this project is for students to display their creative skills in design and theme.”

When asked about her favorite part, she said that comparing “the design on paper to the actual thing, as well as the look on the students’ faces when they realize what they have accomplished” make for a fun activity.

One group, consisting of Alex Nopola, Lucas Pumper, Zion Richter, Jaydon Olson, and Colin O’Connor, went above and beyond on this project.  They constructed a five-foot long replica of Dan Patch Football Stadium complete with a working jumbotron, stands, and a goal post.

Alex Nopola, one of the five group members, said, “We made this because we are all going to really miss football when we graduate, whether it is this year, or in two years.  We wanted to commemorate how great we think football is and have a way to remember it.”

When asked about the hardest and most fun parts, they all seemed to agree that “being with the boys” was the best part, and the hardest part was being able to get the stands up because the wood kept splitting.

The ginormous football field was not the only creative cupcake display. Others included a party theme, a Nintendo theme, a chocolate box theme, two movie theater themes, and an Easter theme.
