Finding Dory is a Disney Pixar movie which depicts the struggle of a forgetful fish named Dory and her journey to find where she came from, and it’s now on Netflix.

After years of being separated from her family, Dory remembers that she too has a family in the ocean. Worried that she might forget them, Dory, Marlin and Nemo go off on an adventure of a lifetime.

Ellen Degeneres reprises her role as the famous Dory from Disney’s Finding Nemo. 

Hayden Rolence brings the voice of Nemo to life. Finding Dory is the 12 year old from Aurora, Illinois’s, first major film. He is poised to become a bright, young actor in Hollywood.

The movie begins in a small, underwater house where Dory and her parents live. It depicts their daily lives and Dory’s struggle with short term memory loss.  This background of Dory’s childhood adds to what most already know of Dory from Finding Nemo.  We know that Dory “just keeps swimming” aimlessly and helps Marlin find his son Nemo.  

What we don’t know is how she got there.  Finding Dory fills in those gaps. During her childhood, Dory gets sucked out into the sea by an undercurrent. She travels the ocean alone for years looking for her parents and her home until she forgets they even exist.

Finding Dory picks up where Finding Nemo leaves off. After getting Nemo back safe and sound, Dory gets hit in the head which jars a memory that she hasn’t had in years; her family.

Returning the favor, Marlin and Nemo now join Dory on her journey and meet up with old friends like Crush, the 150 year-old sea turtle. They also meet new friends who help them get back to Dory’s family.

The timeline and plot structure are typical of most rather predictable Disney films as there are no real surprises and everything falls into place after the characters overcome the usual obstacles.

Even though it is a predictable Disney movie, it deserves 3 ½ stars out of 4 for the nostalgia factor as it brings back to life a movie we all enjoyed as kids.
