Why Him? is an underrated comedy people enjoyed seeing over the holidays.  If you didn’t see it in the theaters, it might be one to catch on DVD when it’s released on March 28th. The movie was directed by John Hamburg who is known for directing Along Came Polly (starring Ben Stiller). The movie budget was $38 million and, as of 2017, the movie has made a little over $51 million and is still rising.

Why Him? stars James Franco, best known for his roles in The Interview and Spider Man movies, playing Laird Mayhew.  Laird, the leader of a billion dollar tech company, is dating Stephanie Fleming (Zoey Deutch), and has his talented assistant, Gustav (Keegan Micheal Key), at his service. Stephanie attends Stanford while her family lives in Michigan.  Stephanie decides to invite her family to meet Laird. The family flies out over Christmas and the comedy explodes with the interactions between Laird and the rest of the family.  Stephanie’s father, Ned Fleming (Bryan Cranston), owns a printing company.  Since Laird created and owns a very successful business based on the one thing that is destroying Ned’s company, the internet, the two have many differences.  The one thing Ned and Laird seem to have in common is their love for Stephanie, which can either make or break their unsteady relationship.

Why Him? is rated R for strong language and sexual material throughout. However, Hamburg does a great job creating comical scenarios and hilarious experiences that leave the audience laughing even after the movie ends. This comedy is a must see. With incredible jokes and one-line puns, this movie makes people laugh from start to finish.

Why Him? was a very well done movie that shows great acting and comic relief like no other. Franco and Cranston, especially, do a wonderful job portraying their characters.  This movie is unique and brilliant due to the blended comedy, fun plot and entertaining story. After you see Why Him? you’ll be wondering why you didn’t see it sooner.
