Prior Lake Dance Team Road to State

High Kicks and Strong Turns

The Prior Lake Dance Team’s section championship is on February 11th. On this day, the team will compete both their jazz and kick dance. The theme of the jazz dance is more contemporary and slow. As for kick, the team is sticking with the quirky theme from last year and dressing up as Waldo.

The kick dance, Where’s Waldo, is doing well this season. The team is dancing thirty girls on the floor. Fellow member of the dance team, senior Nicole Tiritilli, says, “The amount of girls that we’re dancing for kick is remarkable. We have never done this before and it is going well!” Knowing the team is dancing thirty is nothing comparable to our rivals, who are dancing twenty four.

Placements

The team has placed extremely well at invites and quint meets. At conference championships, the team received second place in jazz and fourth in kick. They are doing extraordinarily well this season and are looking to place in the top three at sections.

In order to place third at sections, the team must have ranking points that are higher than the other teams. Lakeville North and Lakeville South beat Prior Lake in ranking points, but Prior Lake beats North and South in total, overall points.

In order to receive the top three spot, the ranking points must be higher than every other team. That is what Prior Lake is missing.

Getting Revenge on Rivals

Prior Lake’s biggest competition this year seems to be Lakeville South and Lakeville North. The three teams score similarly at every competition. The team is looking to beat one of these teams in order to win themselves a spot.

Sophomore, Sammy Curielli says, “Our team is so close to beating North and South. We just need to clean up our movements and fix formations and we can beat them.” The dance team seems motivated to beat their rivals and take on the ultimate challenge.

Hopefully the team makes it to state in jazz and kick this season!  The students at Prior Lake High wish the team the best of luck.
