See A Christmas Carol this Weekend!

What better way to kick off the holiday season than going to see the Prior Lake High School’s production of A Christmas Carol? This lively musical will be performed November 16-18 at 7:00 p.m. and November 19 at 2:00 p.m. in the PLHS auditorium.

Students and families of all ages will enjoy this classic tale by Charles Dickens where a miserly, crotchety old man named Ebenezer Scrooge gets visited by a series of ghosts on Christmas Eve.

“The general message is this whole idea that society can change one person,” says the director of the production, Philip Hoks. According to Hoks, the theme of the shows this year is innocence, and this particular show focuses on society giving the main character Ebenezer Scrooge back the innocence he takes from people.

He continues, “Right now, everything is on track to be 90 minutes without intermission.” The show this year is fast-paced and designed to feel more like a film rather than a traditional play. Hoks is excited for the audience to hear the infectious music by the same composer who wrote a lot of popular Disney music. Even though a lot of people haven’t heard the tunes yet, he’s sure by the end of the show everyone will be humming them.

Hoks isn’t the only one excited about the music. Sean Boyle, the senior who stars as Ebenezer Scrooge, enjoys singing the song “Nothing To Do With Me.” “I get to do a lot of fun lyrical stuff in that,” he says.

“I’m most excited about seeing the finished product, especially seeing all the technical elements come together,” adds senior Gabby Stephans, who plays the Ghost of Christmas Present.

Everyone agrees the show is incredibly fun, and the entire cast is working hard to put on a great performance. Tickets are $7 for students with an ID and $10 for adults.

And finally, to quote Boyle, “Bah humbug! I’ll leave it at that. It says it all, really.”
