Cystic fibrosis, a disease that some people may recognize as CF. Cystic fibrosis is a disorder that damages the lungs and digestive system. The movie Five Feet Apart portrays the story of a few teenagers, Stella, Will, and Poe, who all have cystic fibrosis.
Five Feet Apart is the story of Stella and what her life is like with this disorder. Haley Lu Richardson plays Stella in an unbelievable way. She grapples the emotions of everyone who watches the movie. Even though it’s a movie, it’s so real and a lot of people don’t know how hard it is to have cystic fibrosis.
Stella spends most of her life in the hospital going through treatments to try and save her lungs, but every day gets harder and harder. One day, she meets another boy at the hospital a couple of rooms down from her, Will. Their connection with each other at first was mainly just Stella making sure that Will does his treatments, but later it becomes more of a romantic relationship. A thing that is a lot different between their relationship over others is that they have to stay five feet apart from each other at all times, hence the title. They can’t touch each other because since both of them have cystic fibrosis, they can give the other the disease that they have and maybe even kill them.
Stella and Will do not let it stop them from being together. They go on multiple dates, still five feet apart at all times, but their connection keeps on getting stronger. Every chance they get, they are together and doing their treatments together. Cole Sprouse, who plays Will, displays the raw emotions that his character goes through with not only his disorder but with living a life that he may die sooner than planned.
I would definitely recommend this movie. If you are wanting to tear up and sniffle in the movie theater, this movie would be for you. It’s a total love story but with a major twist.
