The End Of An Era

The End Of An Era

Tony Stark. The originator of this glorious universe that we have all been swept up in. The first ever Iron Man movie came out in 2008 and I don’t think anybody including Robert Downey Jr. himself could have predicted the outcome of this movie and Its impact on the world. Soon after that came every movie imaginable from Captain America and Thor, to the Hulk and Guardians of the Galaxy. But, 2012 was when we really got a good look at what this franchise could be. The Avengers came out in 2012 with the cast consisting of what we now refer to as “The Original 6.’’ They had Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Hulk, Hawkeye, and Black Widow.

However, this was far from the end as more and more movies entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This was around the time Avengers: Age of Ultron came out, Spiderman: Homecoming, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, along with Captain America: Civil War, and of course, the infamous Avengers: Infinity War. I remember quite vividly going to see Infinity War in early May of 2018. I arrived there already knowing who was going to die thanks to the internet. However, that did not mean I was prepared in the slightest. My friends and I went in calling dibs on which Avenger is our boyfriend not expecting to emerge from the theatre shell shocked and rocked with grief after seeing our dear Peter Parker reduced to nothing but dust.

After that, the theories and rumors started to spread like wildfire across social media. There were ideas on who was going to die, who was coming back to life, and of course, how does Captain Marvel play into this? As for me, all I could think was how it can’t possibly get worse than this. Right? Wrong. I knew that I had to see Endgame before any spoilers were spread. The only solution? See it opening night. However, I narrowly escaped as I had to slam my hands over my ears before I heard somebody say something. My friend and I showed up at the theatre 30 seconds after it had already started. To say I was excited would be an understatement, for as the car was pulling into a parking space I was already jumping out of the car with the tires still rolling.

I have always preferred watching movies in theatres over DVD. For one major reason, and that being the experience. You get to see this movie as a collective. But this one was different. For one, it was opening night and this was the most highly anticipated movie of the past decade. The theatre itself brought pact to a completely different level. Throughout the entire movie, people were crying and screaming at the screen excessively unafraid to share their feelings. I am going to highlight audience reaction throughout the movie. Starting with the time jump. When the screen turned black and the ominous 5 years later title appeared on the screen it was as if everyone was thinking the same thing, (what the ****. ) Next, we take a look at Thor, I have never heard so many people scream NOOOOO as loud and as much as when Thor came on to the screen debuting his new bod. But, the biggest reaction had got to be the hammer. If you have seen the movie you know what I am talking about. When Thor was getting beaten up I was worried it would be the end of him. However, America would see it differently because when the camera revealed Cap carrying the hammer intended for the God of Asgard… I have never seen in my entire existence such an array of emotions. There were people screaming I KNEW IT, how is that possible?! However, the most common phrase was WHAT! (high schooler’s you can use your imagination.)

Now, let’s talk about everything that happened in that epic last battle. Everything that every movie has been leading up to happened in that last battle. From Doctor Strange coming out of the abyss to the legion of women that made me want to cry, here is the breakdown of the high lights. First, Doctor Strange shows up and then basically everybody that has a similar type of skills as the Dr. comes soon after. After that everybody that you can imagine comes out of yellow spinning circles in the sky. First, it was the likes of Peter Quill, Hope Pym, T’challa, Shuri, The Winter Soldier, and of course Pepper Potts and Captain Marvel. However, I am a little partial when it comes to the next person that showed up, which would be the one and only Peter Parker. As the fight progresses we see a slightly suspicious encounter between Tony Stark and Dr. Strange. Tony Stark turned to the Dr. and simply asked him if they were doing everything correct and what they had to do in order to win. Dr. Strange quietly told Tony that if he told him they wouldn’t win. This left everyone watching and wondering what was going to happen. There were many other moments that are very notable throughout the battle including, Scarlet Witch bringing Thanos to the brink of death, Tony and Peter reuniting, and of course, Hawkeye running through the sewers with the gauntlet, but I guess you’ll just have to watch the movie to see what happens. Eventually, Peter Parker comes into possession of the gauntlet and holds his own fairly well although he does end up in a hole at one point. At this moment, Captain America takes it from him and every woman in the MCU comes to stand by her side which led to me jumping up and down in my seat.

Now, the tough topic. I knew going in to it that Captain America would die. Since, as we all know Chris Evans officially retired from the role later last year. I think we all also had a hunch that Ironman would most likely die as he was the originator and so he had to finish it. But, I’ll tell you something that no one saw coming. Black Widows death. I talked to multiple people that said they were completely shocked when we saw our dear Nat lying at the bottom of that cliff. I for one thought it was going to be Clint to finally throw himself over the edge. Iron Man, however, was the death that struck everybody’s hearts as he was the originator of this whole universe. Goodbye, Tony, we’ll miss you dearly.

I know that this hasn’t exactly been a review but more so a recap and my thoughts on different scenes. However, I would have to say that this was the best ending that could have ever come out of this series. The Russo Brothers did a great job on tearing at our heartstrings and giving as many nods to past moments as we could have asked for.

So I guess now we pass the torch to the next era of Marvel Cinematic Heroes. Captain Marvel, Black Panther, and Spiderman. The Russo brothers did a great job of showing this transition as well. This was represented by having these three characters pass the gauntlet back and forth during the final battle. So I guess this is goodbye but also a see you later.

Thank you
