A Colossal Workplace

Working with your younger sister, you both have different views on work and your experiences. Noelle, still kind of new, is always learning something and it is fun to train her and teach her what to do. I, Natalie, have been working at Eileen’s Colossal Cookies for almost two years. My older sister actually worked at Eileen’s while she was in high school as well, and now my younger sister started working there too. Working with your sisters can sometimes be frustrating, but I’ve had great experiences working with both my older and younger sister.

Noelle’s View:

I started working at Eileen’s during the summer of 2019 and it has been an awesome job. Everyone who works there is unbelievably nice and, come on, no one can get mad at a cookie store. All of the “work girls” form such a strong bond and we spend time together outside of work! I have made friends from other high schools as well, and I have a couple of friends from Burnsville. I am also the youngest worker at Eileen’s, so it is cool to get to know upperclassmen and be able to receive good high school advice from them.

Working at a job has helped me become more social, responsible, and practice good time management. Whenever I go to work after a long day at school, my mood automatically changes to be more uplifting and happy. The little kids that walk in after daycare to get a cookie make every worker’s day.

Don’t get me wrong, working at a cookie store may seem super easy and not complicated, but every job does come with challenges. Believe it or not, people can be overly picky about cookies! We always try to make the customer happy by helping them get the exact cookies or cookie they were looking for.

Natalie’s View:

I started working at Eileen’s because my older sister told me that my current boss was looking for some more employees, so I decided to apply and start working there. I love working at Eileen’s, and I have almost been working there for two years. It is an extremely fun job with great people to work with. Working at the cookie shop has given me more management skills, responsibility, and friends, and I am so grateful for that!

I think one thing people don’t know about Eileen’s Colossal Cookies is that everything is made within the store by hand, like the dough and frosting, and all frosting and decorating are done by workers in the store. Knowing how to frost a smooth cookie is one skill I didn’t think I’d have down, but after almost two years, I dream about frosting cookies.

Another fun thing about the job is that workers have so many different tasks and roles that it is kind of hard to really know your position. Every new day brings new tasks and orders to do, so nothing is ever the exact same. On a certain day, I typically frost a lot of cookies, bake, help customers, and do things around the store, like clean or organize something.

Overall, I love this job. It is always fun to go make cookies, and you can eat cookies while you work so that’s a bonus. Everyone is super nice, and customers are always excited to get their cookies, especially the kids from Kids Count Daycare, like Noelle mentioned. I think it is really fun to also train your little sister in because you truly trust each other and it is fun to bond more over work.

If you are looking for a job, we highly recommend working at Eileen’s Colossal Cookies! Work somewhere that you would enjoy, for us, we love baking so a cookie store was for both of us! Working teaches you new values and adds new responsibilities to your life. It can be stressful, but if you figure out how to juggle school, work, and athletics, you can make new friends and make money!
