Come join Prior Lake High School for a night of music, laughter, and a bit of terror as we explore what happens when a simple plant becomes a monster! The Broadway smash hit “Little Shop of Horrors” follows Seymour, a nerdy florist who stumbles upon a peculiar plant that promises him fame and fortune—at a deadly cost.
The darkly comedic musical explores themes of love, ambition, and ethics in a way that will stay with the audience long after the curtain call. Between the cast, crew, and puppeteers, there are over 80 students involved with the production.
Rehearsals are well underway, and the senior theater veterans already have many positive things to say. According to Aimee Weaver, “High school theater is such a transformative experience. After just a few years of shows, I learned how to dance, how to have a stage presence, and how to connect with others through such a vulnerable activity. I feel so much more confident in myself and my abilities after my years in PL Theater.”
Theater is also a place where connections are made. DJ Carignan loves that “Prior Lake High School theater is a place where you can be yourself. It is a home. It is a family.”
Students were excited last spring when directors announced this fall’s show. Mara Fontana knew she wanted to be involved since “Little Shop is one of my favorite shows, and throughout my time in theater, I always had a dream that I’d get to stage manage it my senior year. When it was actually announced, I screamed very, very loudly! I’m so thrilled for this to be my last musical during my time here as a stage manager.”
Being involved in theater makes coming back to school something to look forward to for many students. Senior Mason Baas loves the connection. “The fall musical is my favorite time of the year! It’s where I get to bond with my friends, and make lasting memories while producing art.” Leo Choi, senior, agrees. “Prior Lake Theatre is where I learned to perform in front of a huge audience and connect with various people. I am so grateful for the past four years and will bring my experiences with me forever.”
