The International Student Club (ISC) is on a mission to unite all students with different nationalities and cultures within our school and community.
President Sharlene Vang started the club back in the Fall of 2023. Her board members, Vice President Genie Phongsavat and Social Media Manager Nathan Vang also help create a positive environment for members to participate in every Thursday after school.
The main activities include interactive games where students can learn about and recognize different cultures and traditions from many countries. Annual events, such as a Thanksgiving potluck, are hosted for students to share their special meals during the holidays.
Some benefits of getting involved are the opportunity to share and embrace different cultures with others and create unforgettable memories along the way. Members will receive an ISC certificate recognizing their time spent in the club.
President Sharlene Vang states, “As the founder of the International Students Club, I truly believe that everyone deserves to understand and acknowledge other cultures around the world. It’s important to know that there are more cultures in a country. I hope everyone knows that they have a voice of their own no matter what color they are or where they come from. The International Students Club will always accept and appreciate you like everyone else.”
Vang emphasizes the importance of embracing diversity throughout Prior Lake High School. ISC’s goal is to build a safe place for all students to be united.
From talking through shared experiences to participating in cultural fairs, members will find themselves collaborating and building friendships in this club.
Although ISC has built a wonderful community already, they would love to see new faces join this year. Stop by at their next meeting this Thursday!
Club members also look forward to January 16, 2025! ISC will host an international student bridge walk during all three lunch times.
During the bridge walk, students will learn about different cultures from Somalian, Spanish, Mexican, Hmong, Thai, Laotian, Cambodian, etc. Come join ISC as they embrace and proudly represent various cultivated cultures.
