As part of a group activity during 3rd quarter, the ASL 4 class voted for who they wanted as their partners. They were allowed to have 3 choices written on their paper out of the 14 students in the class.
“Haven was the only kid that every single person in class put down as an option and one of their top 3 options of somebody they wanted to work with,” said Mrs. Lindell, the Prior Lake High School ASL 2, 3 and 4 teacher.
In the ASL classroom, Haven showcases a strong work ethic and great leadership skills.
“She’s just likable, and it’s not fake; it’s genuine,” Lindell said.
Haven Fisher, a Prior Lake High School senior, is known to many. She’s known for her amazing basketball skills, having a joyful and lifting spirit, and having an inclusive-to-all personality.
Haven is in many clubs at PLHS, like Laker Leaders, Junior Optimists, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She is also the leader of FCA and was a captain for both Prior Lake girls basketball and girls tennis.
Outside of school, she volunteers at Feed My Starving Children, and she makes tie blankets for the veterans and the homeless.
Haven is committed to play D1 basketball at the University of Tulsa in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
“It’s always been my dream to play D1 basketball, but it’s kind of been like an up and down roller coaster getting there,” Haven said.
Haven fell in love with the school when she visited back in August of 2024, and she committed during the visit. She later announced her commitment to friends and family shortly after she got back home.
“Everything I’ve wanted lined up with everything they had there, especially their coaching staff, their players, and their overall team chemistry,” Haven said.
Haven’s family has been one of her biggest supporters and have been there throughout this whole process.
“I think my family has really believed in me this entire journey, especially my mom and dad,” Haven said. “I appreciate all the support they’ve given me my entire life, especially during the recruiting process when I didn’t have any offers. They really just kept pushing me to strive for greatness.”
Haven also looks up to Kobe Bryant, especially the way he structured his workouts and how he played basketball overall. She also loves how he treated others.
“His work ethic is very disciplined. I would run a lot of my workouts for basketball the same way that he would run his workouts, and they helped me get very mentally tough,” Haven said. “He was also just such a loving person. He just showed a lot of love to his family, his friends, and his fans, and I feel like I’ve really looked up to that.”
Even outside of basketball Haven has influenced many PLHS students’ lives.
“Haven is really kind to everybody,” Lindell said. “She doesn’t ever want anyone to be by themselves. Let’s say we have an odd number; she’s the first one to recognize and pull somebody into a group. Her kindness leads her to do things that other kids might not even recognize. She just notices those kinds of things right away.”
This influence has also extended to some teachers at PLHS.
“She helps me see the positive in life even when we have bad things going on,” Lindell said. “Her positive attitude helps me. If I’m having a bad morning, when she comes in and smiles and says good morning, I think that just kind of brightens your day.”
In the future, Haven plans to continue playing basketball and possibly becoming a coach for women’s basketball.
Haven has some advice for students who play sports and for students who plan to play sports in college.
“When you constantly show up day after day after day, you’ll start to see your work that you’re putting in change the way you play. Even with working out, you’ll start to see it changing your body. I think that kind of keeps the motivation going even more,” Haven said.
