We live in a society where individual safety is an ever-growing concern. In dangerous situations, knowing how to defend oneself and those we care about is essential.
Interested in getting started? Join the new Self-Defense Club here at Prior Lake High School led by Jasmine DeHadway, Elijah Stevens, and Isaac Matlon who all have 7-10 years of MMA training!
They hope to enhance the personal safety and well-being of their community through mental and physical techniques of protection.
When they began the club, one challenge they faced was student engagement.
To combat this, Stevens stated, “The rise in people’s incapability to face uncomfortable circumstances and confront challenges in their life is confronted in the club’s style of teaching. We encourage those in the club to have a voice, shaky or not, and feel a sense of pride and confidence in their ability and in part the community”
Self-defense is not only about physical strength, but it also involves mental and emotional preparedness.
At this club, members are encouraged to explore the concept of self-defense in a low-stake and nonjudgmental environment.
Normally, self-defense classes range from 50 to several hundred dollars, but members can start learning with the self-defense club for free!
They meet every Monday at 3:00 PM in B308 and would love to see new members join!
