The largest chain location of the weightlifting gym Los Campeones just opened at 14301 West Burnsville Pkwy in Burnsville, replacing the headquarters of a Twin Cities salon brand.
The new location is Los Campeones’ largest chain location at just under 41,000 square feet.
Los Campeones is owned by a professional bodybuilder, Benjamin Loehrer, with the first location opening in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Now, there are more than ten locations across the country.
Many people have been talking about how this new gym compares to other gyms in the area such as Lifetime or Dakotah! Sport and Fitness. Price wise, Los Campeones is the least expensive of the three, coming in at $68 per month per person, while Dakotah and Lifetime are both above $80 per person.
Although Los Campeones is technically cheaper, anyone getting a membership there has to pay an additional cost to use the recovery facilities other than the sauna and cold plunge which come free at Dakotah and Lifetime.
In an over-the-phone interview with an employee at Los Campeones, they said that additional recovery facilities cost an additional $7 per month, bringing the total membership cost to $75 per month.
These recovery facilities include a hyperbaric oxygen chamber, massage bed, mobility wall, and more. The $7 upgrade is definitely worth it!
In order to see how these facilities compare to those at Lifetime, I interviewed a Prior Lake High School Junior, Jacoby Perrault, who switched from Lifetime to Los Campeones.
When I asked him what the main differences in recovery facilities are between Lifetime and Los Campeones, he said, “The main differences are that Lifetime has a pool and hot tub while Los only has a sauna and cold plunge.”
Though, it is important to note that he only has the base membership at Los Campeones, so he doesn’t have access to additional facilities.
One main concern that many gymgoers have is how busy the gym is at times when they want to go. So, I asked Perrault if one gym is significantly busier than the other and on which specific days it is noticeably different.
He responded, “I believe that Los is a little busier than Lifetime on most days. Usually, in the morning, I have noticed that Los is significantly less busy than Lifetime.”
My final question to Perrault was about how the quality of the lifting equipment at the two gyms compared. “The quality of the equipment at Lifetime is definitely worse as the machines are older and they mostly consist of basic machines while Los has brand new machines and much more variety,” he said.
While Lifetime and Dakotah Sport and Fitness are both perfectly good gyms, Los Campeones is definitely the best option for anyone who is serious about their journey in the gym and is willing to sacrifice some of the included recovery equipment to have better and newer machines and equipment.
