Christian Group Looking To Expand

Catalyst Thursday Morning Meeting.

In Prior Lake High School, there are many activities that a student can get himself or herself involved in from robotics to quidditch, but the school also offers a prayer group called “Catalyst.” Catalyst is a student-run prayer group launched at the beginning of the 2014-2015 school year.

According to Alex Preston, a PLHS senior, the original group began with him and about six others and their activities in the group were very limited.  Now, there are over fifty active members in the group and that number is still growing.
Catalyst meets THURSDAY (a change because of Laker Time) mornings on school weeks from 7:15 A.M. until school starts in Ms. Pedretti’s classroom located in room 333 (a change because of Laker Time). A typical meeting includes breakfast; the group brings in donuts and orange juice and occasionally they cook up something since Mrs. Pedretti’s room is a Family and Consumer Science classroom. Also, they have group prayers, a guest speaker to come in from various churches across Minnesota, and also games and other assorted activities.
The group also does activities outside the school; this winter they had a Christmas Party that wasn’t limited to current group members. It gave an opportunity  to hang out and promote the group to friends. The guest speakers for the group also promote mission trips to members, the most recent one offered was a mission trip to Minneapolis to a soup kitchen to serve food to the homeless.
This group is student-run with Ms. Pedretti as the adult supervisor. The leaders are Alex Preston, Sophie Zielke, Olivia Baldzicki, and Lauren Hopper. The leaders plan each group session along with the certain activities that they’ll do and also the out of school activities.
“Our goal is to make Jesus known. I hope to have as many people hear the name of Jesus in this high school,” says Preston. Preston also sees the group continuing to grow and grow as long as the group continues in its recruiting.
