The 2025 film “Marty Supreme” received nine Oscar Award nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director (Josh Safdie), and Best Actor (Timothée Chalamet), but did not win any awards.
The film was also recognized for its technical and creative achievements, earning nods for Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Costume Design, and Best Production Design.
Even though “Marty Supreme” was shut out of winning awards, it’s well worth the watch. Timothée Chalamet stars as Marty Supreme, and I give this movie a 5/5 easily. The movie delivers a powerful message that left my mind spiraling with thoughts by the end.
Going into the movie, I expected it to just focus on a famous ping pong player, but it’s so much more than that. The emotional storytelling and life-lessons in the film are well worth it as they follow a character whose fame costs him misfortune and loss.
Marty, an up-and-coming table tennis star has one dream and desire — to be the best in the world. Throughout the movie, Marty makes poor decisions in order to get there, but at what cost?
I’ve always been a fan of Timothée Chalamet’s acting and was first introduced to him in the 2019 film “Little Women” where he’s one of sisters’ love interests. I also saw him star in the tear-jerking drama “Beautiful Boy” about the relationship between a father and his son who struggles with addiction.
Chalamet’s character Marty does whatever it takes to get to the top whether that means lying to those closest to him or stealing from others to get ahead.
This movie portrays the ugly truth of letting fame get in the way of what really matters, and Timothée Chalamet does a great acting job conveying Marty’s feelings through the film.
Many of Timothée Chalamet’s films do a great job of portraying deep messages that will keep you thinking for a while and I think “Marty Supreme” is just another one of those films.
“Marty Supreme” is also filled with big-name actors such as Gwyneth Paltrow, Odessa A’zion, Keven O’Leary, and two-time Grammy winner Tyler, The Creator.
In the end, “Marty Supreme” leaves a lasting impression through its emotional story and Timothée Chalamet’s remarkable performance.
